John has forty-plus years of diverse material handling experience in the construction, industrial and marine industries. His experience includes; equipment operations, equipment maintenance, lift supervision, inspection, load testing, heavy lift planning, accident investigation and industrial training.
John’s operating background includes extensive experience with all types of mobile cranes, all types of overhead bridge cranes, crawler cranes, stiff-leg derricks, various types of tower cranes, and floating barge cranes including steam powered. He has operated equipment with various attachments such as clamshell buckets, concrete buckets, pile drivers, excavating attachments and demolition balls. His level of experience is indispensable as an instructor and an inspector.
Prior job experience includes working as crane instructor and crane inspector for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Tulsa and Little Rock Districts, and as an instructor/foreman for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA where he supervised major repairs and inspections on 437 cranes in the shipyard inventory for nuclear refueling and instructed operators on all types of cranes. John has load tested all types of cranes and supervised and planned rigging lifts.
He is a CCO Mobile Crane Operator for all mobile cranes, overhead cranes, tower cranes, rigging and signalperson, and is a CCO Practical Examiner for the same. He is a CCO certified crane inspector and performs inspections of all types of mobile, overhead, tower and lattice boom cranes.
John is a highly qualified instructor and inspector that enjoys passing on his knowledge of the construction industry to others. He has been awarded the Crane Hotline 2010 Top Trainer of the Year.
